We write this update to put a stop to a set of lies being spread by a competitor, Portrait. We hate to have to do this – we want 100% of our efforts focused on serving our customers – and have previously ignored a long history of unethical behavior.
But they recently began spreading an especially harmful and easily disprovable lie: that we are running out of money and asked them to buy us so that the medspas we support aren’t left in the lurch.
Nothing could be further from the truth.
We have a staff of over 80 team members building Moxie full-time, and plan to hire 10-15 additional team members this year. The medspas we support have, in the aggregate, grown over 8x year over year. We have healthy financials and no need to raise more funding – though we do have overwhelming interest from investors to further fund Moxie. If any future or existing Moxie clients want a walkthrough of our finances, we’re happy to provide assurances on our stability!

20 years from now… Well, you get the point. We’re not going anywhere.
We understand that Portrait is concerned about Moxie. We welcome healthy competition, but we hear from providers that Portrait is struggling to deliver their copied offering in a timely manner, sometimes taking months. But that’s not the only thing that’s different about our approach:
-We put our partners first and focus on growing and supporting you. Portrait laid off their entire provider success team. They now have 15 salespeople, but no provider success; in contrast, we have over a dozen provider success managers (all with extensive experience in aesthetics and beauty), but only two salespeople.
-We have hired four wonderful team members who previously worked at Portrait (all of whom applied inbound!). No Moxie employee has left to work for Portrait.
-We’ve made compliance a point of emphasis, shown by our investment in talent and products. Our General Counsel led the expansion of the nation’s largest medspa chain for 18 years and helped to shape the regulations for medspas in 10 states. We have spent months and hundreds of thousands of dollars to bring first class templates to help eliminate the time and expense doing so on your own.
- At Moxie, your patients are your patients. Portrait used the contact information from the patients of providers who left Portrait to attract them to a different Portrait-owned practice. Portrait’s membership contracts even force patients—the ones every provider works tirelessly to win over—to go to other clinics in their network if the provider leaves Portrait.
So, why have medspa entrepreneurs consistently chosen Moxie over Portrait?
After all, we’re far from perfect – our software doesn’t handle multi device medspas gracefully yet (in progress, coming soon!), and our marketing services need to be more robust (we can’t wait for you to see what our newest hire has planned here!), and we have dozens of software and service improvements planned for the coming months – but our medspas don’t choose us expecting perfection. They choose us because we show up every day with an unreasonable commitment to their success. We listen carefully to our medspas, and we’re determined to be the company that scales with you, and gets better alongside you. There’s still time for Portrait to copy that too – and we hope they do.
